Assurance

Our assurances

The certification, standards and checks that stand behind the meat we supply, from the market to your counter.

The marks behind our meat

Three names stand behind every order

Each does a different job. The Halal Monitoring Committee certifies that our meat is halal, HACCP is how food safety is managed, and the Food Standards Agency oversees the food safety rules we work to.

01 Halal assurance

Certified halal by the Halal Monitoring Committee

Pak Mecca Meats Ltd is certified by the Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC), for assurance of halal authenticity from the farm to the plate.

HMC describes itself as an independent, not-for-profit charity that monitors, inspects and certifies halal products for the benefit of the Muslim community.

Our British lamb and mutton is carefully sourced and processed, with animals slaughtered in accordance with Halal requirements. HMC's certification covers our lamb, mutton and beef, and certified carcasses carry HMC's stamp, like the one in the photograph.

02 Food safety

Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point

HACCP is a food safety management system. It controls biological, chemical and physical hazards at every stage: from raw materials, buying and handling, through processing and distribution, to the finished product.

The law requires every food business to base its food safety procedures on the principles of HACCP. There are seven.

  1. Find the hazards

Look for every biological, chemical and physical hazard, step by step.

  2. Fix the control points

Mark the steps where control is essential to keep food safe.

  3. Set the limits

Give each control point a limit that separates safe from unsafe.

  4. Monitor

Check every control point, every time.

  5. Correct

Act straight away when a limit is missed.

  6. Verify

Confirm, regularly, that the whole system works.

  7. Record

Keep the records that show it was done.

03 Regulation

The Food Standards Agency

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is responsible for food safety and food hygiene in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

It works with local authorities to enforce food safety law, and its officials work in approved meat plants to check that standards are being met.

Our processing plant is operated by our sister company, Midlands Meat Processors Ltd, under FSA approval GB 2932. Pak Mecca Meats is the wholesale and distribution business.
